Family Law
Delays

The time required to resolve your case may vary, from only a few months to several, depending upon many different factors. To gain insight into the amount of time to resolve your matter, it is necessary to ask a qualified attorney who practices in the court where your matter will be decided.

California law requires no less than six-month after filing a Petition for Dissolution of Marriage, before entering a Judgment of Dissolution. Congestion in the courts, makes most disputed matters take substantially longer if a trial is required. Focusing or narrowing the number of decisions to be made by the court, can make your matter of faster through the courts.

It is unfortunate, but most trial courts in California cannot hear a matter within the six-month waiting period.

An order that resolves all pending issues first raised in a case is ordinarily written into a Judgment. A dissolution of marriage matter is not complete until the matter is either reduced to a Judgment, or until the case is dismissed.
